I am sooooo sick of people who don’t use their turn signals, and I’ve got a lot more stuff I’m pissed off about, like people who just keep eating until they are STUFFED! You know who you are. And don’t blame your childhood habits, either.

What I mean is I just can’t understand what’s so hard about the equation: too much food + too little exercise = too much BODY!

If you want to lose weight, then stop eating so much and start moving! I work out every morning and I walk (almost) every evening. Yeah, it takes motivation and yeah it’s a pain sometimes. But the results are substantial. I feel good, I have energy, and I don’t have to buy new clothes — a size larger — every year.

About that Thanksgiving “feast”: Here’s a news flash for anybody who is moaning about how much they ate last week, and how full they still feel thanks to an overload of stuffing, gravy and mashed potatoes. Remember what Nancy Reagan said about using drugs? “Just say no!” I realize this may come as a shock, but no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to have another piece of pie with whipped cream. You really do have some control over your own life. You could just decide not to pig out. Think of how much good those dollars spent on pecan pie might have done if they’d been donated to Second Harvest Food Bank instead? Okay, you don’t like that idea. Try this one.

Instead of the usual lapdance with the NFL you engage in after the Big Meal, why not get up off that couch and take a walk? You know, a walk - where you use your own two feet to propel you through the open air. Given the sheer splendor of the coastline of Santa Cruz County it shouldn’t be too tough to find great trails near your home. You can even multi-task here - get some exercise, have a conversation with folks you care about, without the mediation of television, iPod, MP3, cell phone or computer screen. It’s just a thought.

Well, you’re not that difficult to track down thanks to the “Googler,” (another Bushism that is becoming part of everyday usage). Nice site with lots of intriguing visuals–I like the shot of Firenze. Will you be including humble submissions, ala recipes, from your loyal followers? BTW, what did you have to do to work the “back alleys of journalism?”

What’s with the rage against drivers who don’t use turn signals, geez, how do you expect me talk on the phone, change CDs, and program my GPS! I’m already steering with my knees! Hey, don’t wear out your middle finger–you may need it some day.

    Toodles!

P.S. I know you’re a white wine drinker, but check out the Robert Hall, Paso Robles, 2004 Cabernet at Trader’s–nice finish, full of delicious fruit–goes well with the Creekstone, NY Strip, available at New Leaf.

Bob and I dined at Absinthe last Sunday, and then at Hayes Street Grill on Monday, after lunch with David at Aqua.. We were in the City to hear Anthony bourdain at the Herbst and stayed at the Inn at the Opera. Not a bad weekend.

We’ve dined at Absinthe twice, both times before the opera. The first time my dining partner found the food awful. The second time was thoroughly miserable. Even the waiter was embarrassed and did what he could for us. After waiting eons for our appetizers, they grabbed my husband’s just as he was about to put his first spoonful in his mouth. A friend received his salad without the dressing. period. It took another 10 minutes to get the dressing. Then, the second time they served my husband’s appetizer, another server told the one about to set the dish down that it wasn’t my husband’s dish. A long wait until he finally got his appetizer. Evidently, the chef was having a hissy-fit in the kitchen. Bad night? or bad Absinthe. We’ll NEVER go back. Hayes St. Grill has always been good and efficient.

When people are too rude or too inconsiderate especially if they are on a cell phone, I honk if they don’t use their turn signal. It does wake them up, but I don’t do it if it would wake others up. Evidently some states don’t permit driving while on the phone. People who do don’t drive very well, either much more slowly clogging the roadways (especially oon 17!) or fail to regard the other traffic as they manoeuvre since they don’t signal. What banalities do they have to say for so long, anyway? People should listen to the environment more, not talk so much. I also rant about FUV’s (Tappet Bros. terminology). Everytime I see a flipped vehicle, at least it’s an FUV. Unless people really need them because they drive on rutted dirt tracks, they should be in vehicles with better gas mileage.

I want to make a bumper sticker that reads, “Turn signals are not an optional feature”. That is my absolute biggest pet peeve. I have had countless fantasies about following people and waiting until they leave their car so that I can run out with a stencil and paint “I don’t signal” on their car for everyone to see.
