I had just the opposite experience. My partner and I went to Gabriellas for an anniversary dinner. The service was horrible. After two tables came and went while we were sitting there waiting for our entrees, our server finally noticed that she had apparently forgotten to place our order. She came over and apologized, but then manage to have us wait another 35 minutes for the entrees to be served. So our main course came 75 minutes after our salads did. It ruined what was supposed to be a special dinner for us. Although our entrees were comp'd (nothing else was), I was truly surprised that I did not receive any visit or apology from any managers.

A new chef isn't worth much if they can't keep a good staff working there.

I'll never go back.

In town for my son's debut at the Irwin Scholars show at the UCSC Sesnon Gallery, I booked a table at Gabriella's for our blended, way-too-much- history family. I chose Gabriella's based on its website. What luck! Gabriella's is beautiful. The staff handled our rowdy bunch with aplomb. Your super star Chef Baker fed us into sublime submission. My former husband found his favorite wine on the list (Ridge Mountain Cabernet) and treated us all to more than enough. My boyfriend, a La Jolla chef who is discerning to a fault, nodded full approval throughout the meal. (He chose the quail guessing it to be a new menu item by Chef Baker.) My daughter who hates everything, loved everything. My 74 year old mother tucked happily into her leek and mushroom bread pudding never to be heard from again. And my son has a Proustian memory of his first gallery show. . .
