Christina, wait til I tell you what happened to me during and after the judging. While the appetizers were being served, I visited the rest room, which appeared locked. I chatted quite awhile with Jacqueline Bazzano, wine buyer for Seascape Foods, before we realized that the door was simply stuck.

Long story short, I missed the appetizers! Later, I called Janet to get some info on Lionel's pate maison, so I could write something intelligent about the appetizers for my column. She insisted that I come in and retaste some of what I missed!

I went in, had several appetizers of the day as well as the pate and a nice talk with Janet and Lionel. And Guess who was there celebrating her birthday? Original owner, Rene Chyle.

So, what had been an unfortnate happenstance turned into quite the opposite. I guess you'd call that making wine out of vinegar.
