The first Thursday of every month, Theo’s hosts a Brown Bag Wine Dinner beginning at 6:30pm. A specific wine varietal is featured each month and Chef Nicci Tripp prepares a 3-course meal to complement the chosen wine. The price is only $45 per person, all inclusive, and you need only bring a bottle of the featured wine or purchase one from the wine list to share. Of course, there’s no corkage fee.

Enjoying a cult following among connoisseurs for over a decade, the Theo’s wine evening is a great place to get started learning about wine. As exciting as the chance is to taste a huge range of wines, and to enjoy a fine dinner as well, for my money the big draw is expert commentary by Anita Sjoberg, who knows more about wine than any ten people you’d care to name. Former buyer for San Jose’s legendary Wine Club, Sjoberg offers viticultural illumination before and during dinner that is bound to expand your palate, as well as your enjoyment of the wines. Just the chance to learn more from this expert would, all by itself, be worth the fee. But there are all those wines to sample, and dinner….

Here are the featured varietals for the remainder of 2007’s Brown Bag Wine Dinners: –

September 6 – Rhône
October 4 – Sparkling Wines
November 1 – Aged Pinot Noir (at least 5 years old)
December 6 – Aged Cabernets (at least 5 years old)

Theo’s – on N. Main Street in Soquel. For reservations – which are absolutely required for this popular evening – call 462-3657. Or check the website for details.
