We are loving the oak-free finish and intricate interior of Ryan Beauregard’s 2009 Chardonnay “Metallique” — aged in stainless steel so that the heady grass, citrus and jalapeño oil varietal qualities of chard can reach forward.
Vibrant and refreshing, it’s available at Shoppers for a rock bottom $14.99. This one opens beautifully and is even better the second day.
Never a fan of big oakey buttery chardonnay’s, I first tasted an un oaked version while visiting Pietra Santa over in Hollister. I find they are great with fish and seafood or as an apperitif, very refreshing as you say. Cheers!
Try a real Chablis from Chablis, France; Chardonnay producef without oak for over a hundred plus years. The California no oak Chardonnays are just wannabes to this great wine region.
LDR, if you like an un-oaked chard try Sorelle per Sempre, It’s under $15 but hard to find. We bought out the shelf at K&L in Redwood City, I think a place in Milpitas of all places carries it but I haven’t been there. Cheers.
Bob, I’m a huge fan of Chablis but the big price difference makes the un oaked chardonnay a nice everyday alternative. Thanks Dee, I will try K&L and maybe Beltramo’s just down the road from them.
