The red trout, sautéed crispy and served on a bed of green beans and roasted sunchokes, is a sensuous way to celebrate a chilly winter evening. You need only walk into the warm brasserie ambience of Oswald (corner of Front & Soquel, in downtown Santa Cruz) and let the staff take care of you.
If you don’t get over there soon, you will literally be the last on your block!

“Warm brasserie ambience”?! As someone who appreciates and likes modernist design, I understand trying to match the parking garage location, but this is not well done. Harsh and noisy, definitely not the place for significant conversation. Almost two years for this? Perhaps Oswald could offer roller skate service to parked cars? The food, wonderful. The wine list, apart from a separate Riesling list (ask for it), uninspired and miserably short on both wines by the glass and local wineries. Service, occasionally amateurish, but generally fine.
