hello to you.
I am an American living in Milano, where I came to work as a Stage Director @ LA Scala, via a Fulbright. I wrote a review of PArsifal, Tristan and Hollander this year (Bayreuth). Can send you, just for your information. An email?

Thanks for your excellent article about Mads Tolling in Good Times. You caught perfectly that the Symphony is evolving. We hope to attract younger people to the fold because symphonies shouldn’t be stodgy places only for people with gray hair. (Truth in advertising: My roots are decidedly gray.) Sometimes it’s difficult to turn the ship, but … one step at a time. I’m sorry that some folks missed the amazing drum concerto at our last symphony concert. But they can catch it this Sunday on KAZU’s livestream at 4pm.

Thank you for your highly entertaining and spot-on Parsifal review. Frankly, I think you went a little easy on Jay Scheib, who seemed to be trying to set the record for the highest number of bad ideas ever crammed into an opera. In addition to those you found space for, how about Amfortas milking his wound to fill the Grail, Parsifal abseiling the walls of Klingsor’s castle with two (!!) shields, the garden nymphs tossing the head of one of their slain lovers like a football, or Parsifal delivering much of his Act 2 material clutching the heart of the amateurish dummy lolling at the back of the stage. Perhaps worst of all, Scheib did his best to divert our attention from some truly thrilling singing with spectacularly inept stagecraft. Too many instances to catalog here but special mention must go to the fight he staged between Gurnemantz and some of the Knights while Amfortas is delivering his searing music prior to Parsifal appearance in Act 3. What a travesty. Hopefully he never sets foot in an opera house again, but if he does, i trust you’lll have another, equally barbed response
